Compare your test result with Australian Home Affairs English levels and Student Visa (subclass 500) thresholds. Includes the rules that changed on 7 August 2025.
Check IELTS or PTE results against published Australian visa English thresholds. This is a score comparison, not a visa eligibility determination, an IELTS–PTE conversion, or a guarantee that your test is acceptable. Your scores stay in your browser; this checker does not send them to A2MS.
Enter your four reported component scores
Each of the four component scores matters for Vocational, Competent, Proficient and Superior English. A high overall score does not make up for a component below its required threshold.
Optional for English levels, but required to check Functional English. Enter the overall score shown on your report; do not calculate it from the four components.
What these results can and cannot tell you
For migration English levels, the checker tests component-score thresholds, while Functional English uses an overall score. It does not determine whether a particular visa requires that level, how long your result remains valid for your actual application, whether a passport or education exemption applies, or whether an IELTS One Skill Retake is acceptable for your visa.
For Student Visa 500, English test thresholds depend on the approved test date and eligible course packaging. The test must generally have been taken within the required two-year window, and exceptions may apply. A college’s admission requirement can be higher or different.
DoHA does not accept completely online, at-home English tests for visa purposes. Check the actual official rules and your visa subclass before paying for or lodging an application.
