Visitor Visa

Visitor Visa Australia – Explore, Visit, and Experience Australia

Australia is one of the world’s most popular travel destinations, known for its stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, and welcoming communities. Whether you want to visit family, friends, or explore the country as a tourist, the Australian Visitor Visa makes it possible. At A2MS, we guide you through the application process so you can focus on planning your trip.

What is an Australian Visitor Visa?

The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) allows foreign nationals to visit Australia for short-term stays. It is ideal for tourism, visiting family or friends, or participating in business activities such as conferences and meetings. With this visa, you can experience Australia’s unique culture, iconic landmarks, and breathtaking natural wonders.

Types of Visitor Visas

Subclass 600 includes different streams for different visiting purposes. A relative’s invitation letter does not always mean the Sponsored Family stream is the right choice. Check the intended activities, application location and eligibility before lodging.

Tourist stream

For: tourism, holidays and visits to friends or family. The permitted stay and travel entries are decided case by case.

Prepare: visit plan, sufficient funds and evidence of genuine temporary intentions. Work is not permitted.

Home Affairs: Tourist stream

Sponsored Family stream

For: eligible visits to family with formal sponsorship. A security bond may be requested.

Check: sponsor eligibility and obligations; a Tourist stream with a family invitation may instead suit some visitors.

Home Affairs: Sponsored Family

Business Visitor stream

For: eligible meetings, conferences, trade fairs, contract negotiations and similar business visitor activities.

Not for: providing services to an Australian business, local employment or direct sales to the public.

Home Affairs: Business Visitor

Before applying: Check whether an ETA (subclass 601) or eVisitor (subclass 651) may be appropriate for your passport and visit purpose. Home Affairs decides each application; no visa, entry or stay period is guaranteed. Explore official visa options.

Visitor subclass 600: choose the correct stream and conditions

Visitor subclass 600 streams serve genuine short stays, including tourism, family visits and permitted business visitor activity. Eligibility and permitted activities differ between an offshore Tourist stream, onshore Tourist stream, Business Visitor stream and Sponsored Family stream. Some passport holders may instead qualify for ETA subclass 601 or eVisitor subclass 651.

A Visitor visa does not grant general work rights, and permitted study or training is generally limited to three months. The stay and entry conditions are determined on the actual grant; there is no automatic visa extension or conversion to a Student or Partner visa.

Common questions

Can I work while visiting on a subclass 600 visa?

No. Visitor visas do not permit paid work. The Business Visitor stream allows certain business visitor activities but not employment or selling goods and services in Australia.

Can I visit family and later apply for a Partner visa?

You must first check your current visa conditions and the requirements for the proposed Partner visa; an onshore application is not automatically available.

Does family sponsorship guarantee approval?

No. The Sponsored Family stream requires an eligible sponsor, genuine visit and other conditions, and a security bond may be requested.
