Student Visa Fund Calculator

Student Visa Fund Calculator

Student visa financial planning – reviewed 27 October 2026. Use this calculator as an indicative starting point to estimate student living costs, tuition, travel and eligible family or schooling costs where applicable. The applicable evidence depends on the visa, the location and date of lodgement, any family-member exemption and the financial-capacity pathway.

Current published Home Affairs minimum living-cost benchmark: AUD 29,710 for a primary student for 12 months, with additional applicable amounts for eligible family members and school costs. Actual living and tuition expenses can be considerably higher, and government settings may change. The new 2 October 2026 family-member rules mean that most new Student visa applicants cannot include partners or children without meeting an exemption. Do not use this calculator to assume family eligibility.

Important: An estimated total is not a guarantee of meeting financial capacity criteria or receiving a Student visa. You may need to show genuine access to funds and evidence of their source. Use Home Affairs subclass 500, the A2MS Student Visa guide and October 2026 application changes before committing funds.

Student Visa Funds — Indicative 12-Month Estimate

Estimate the financial evidence normally considered for a subclass 500 primary student. Calculations use the annual minimum amounts currently published by the Department of Home Affairs, not your personal eligibility decision. Values are in Australian dollars (AUD). No details are transmitted or stored by this tool.

Enter the first 12 months' tuition, less amounts already paid and evidenced. For a shorter course, use its remaining total.
Edit to match your actual travel plans. A$2,000 is an illustrative starting figure, not a universal rule.

Important: This is a full 12-month estimate, not a Department of Home Affairs calculator or evidence of visa eligibility. Courses or stays shorter than 12 months can require different pro-rating; some applicants need more funds or different evidence. You must also demonstrate genuine access to funds. The 2 October 2026 family-member restrictions must be assessed separately.

Alternative Annual-Income Evidence Pathway

Home Affairs describes an alternative annual-income evidence pathway for eligible Student visa applicants. At the review date, the published thresholds are:

  • AUD 87,856 in annual income for a qualifying application without accompanying family members.
  • AUD 102,500 in annual income where accompanying family members are included lawfully under an applicable exception.

Only income of eligible parents or a spouse/de facto partner may qualify under the applicable rule, and specific official documents (such as recent government tax assessments) are required. Bank statements or an employer letter alone are not accepted as annual-income evidence for that route.

Verify the latest rules and exemptions on Home Affairs. Do not treat these thresholds as evidence that the new family-member inclusion restrictions have been satisfied.
